How to Prepare your Home to Sell on the Market Today!

Are you looking to sell your home? Here are a few little ways you can prepare your home to sell today!

Minimal Furniture

Nothing clutters up a home like excessive and/or large furniture. When buyers walk through a home, they want to feel like there’s room to spare. If you have large sofas or multiple bookcases in a room, you’ll want to remove some of it. The more open the rooms feel, the better.

After you’ve removed some furniture, arrange the remaining items in such a way that invites conversation. Keep it simple and make it flow.

Clean, Clean, Clean!

This one should be obvious. No one wants to look at a dirty home! Clean the windows, scrub the grout, dust the mantle, etc. Make sure every surface is sparkling! Some cleaning may be easy, but some may require a little extra cleaner and elbow grease.

As you prepare your home to sell, you’ll definitely want to declutter. Just as you want the living areas of your home to feel open, you want the closets and cabinets to look organized and spacious. If you’re stashing everything in the closets, buyers will think that there’s not enough storage in your home. Pack up the things you don’t need and store it or get rid of it. Having your closet look a little empty is better than having it stuffed to the brim.

Depersonalize

Buyers want to be able to picture themselves living in the home. If all your family photos are hanging up, it will be difficult for them to do that. They’ll be thinking about who’s living in the home currently instead of seeing themselves living in the home in the future. Take down photos and decorations that aren’t neutral and store them until you move. Just think, it’s a head start on your packing.

Curb Appeal

First impressions are important. If a buyer doesn’t like the look of the outside of your home, what makes you think they’ll want to come inside? Make sure that the outside of your home is scrubbed and cleaned, the landscaping is trimmed and looking it’s best and that there aren’t skateboards, shoes and other knick-knacks hanging around outside.

After you’ve gotten the outside of your home ready, take a step back and really look at it. Would you walk into that home? Maybe get a trusted/honest friend to do the same.
