Are you getting ready to retire? Are all your kiddos moved out and living on their own? How can you decide where to retire? Where will be the best place for you?
These are important questions to ask yourself, and there are a few things you’ll probably want to consider when you do.
Decide What You Want
Sit down and think about what your dream retirement will look like (whether this is by yourself or with your spouse). Do you want to pick up a new hobby? Do you want to find an all-inclusive community? Are you going to spend most of your time traveling? Do you want to be close to family?
Along with thinking about ideals, you’ll want to also consider if/when you’ll need in-home care or other help.
While thinking about what you’re wanting, be sure to take your budget into account. What is realistic? What can you afford?

Find Some Options
Start looking at areas you could live that fit what you’re needing/wanting from your retirement. Are you wanting to move far away from where you are now?
Look at some retirement communities or just some real estate options in the area(s) you’re considering.
Once you’ve narrowed down some options, go check out these areas.
Be aware of when the best and worst times of the year are for these areas. Do you like what the communities offer? What does the cost of living look like? Can you afford it?
Do these communities fit your needs/wants you decided on?
